Why Oh Baby?
Oh Baby is unique in that it offers a holistic and well-rounded perspective on pediatric sleep and goes beyond what you may have already read or learned from books, blogs, or courses. My extensive background in child development and infant mental health ensures that I will always take an evidence-based, scientific approach when crafting my services and educating families. I come equipped with an MS in Child Development with special interests in infant mental health & whole family wellness, extensive training + a certification in pediatric sleep, and hold a leadership position within the Association for Professional Sleep Consultants. I strive to offer parents not only expert guidance but also personalized support surrounding sleep struggles. I am constantly keeping up to date on the latest evolutions in the fields of child development, infant mental health, and pediatric sleep science, so your sleep solutions won’t just be tailored to your family, but will be rooted in evidence-based research and practices.
I'm not located in Phoenix. Can you still help me?
Yes! The benefits of technology allow me to work with clients nationwide. Although I would love to meet you in person, we can communicate via phone, video calls, and e-mail.
What happens during a sleep consultation?
Even before our private consultation, we will review your current sleep situation, lifestyle and goals. After getting a better sense of your parenting style, your child's personality, and your family's needs, I will lay out an easy-to-follow, step-by-step plan for solving your sleep struggles in an intentional and comprehensive way. We will address all the "puzzle pieces" needed to find sleep solutions and go over how to navigate bedtime, night-wakings and daytime naps. I will guide you as you teach your child healthy sleep habits, and you will learn how to respond in a way that supports your child's needs in developmentally appropriate ways but also encourages independence. I promise that after our time together, you will feel empowered to respond to any setback.
But our work together is not done after our consultation. My packages are unique in that you will have extensive follow-up support for the first 2-3 weeks (with options for longer) as you implement your sleep plan. You will have unlimited access to my personal e-mail while you are implementing the sleep plan, and we will also stay in touch daily via a snazzy walkie-talkie app called Voxer. I'll be able to answer any questions that arise or make any tweaks if things just aren't feeling right. I will also track your child's sleep through a shared digital sleep log to make sure we're on the right track. At the end of the day, my goal is to not only get your family sleeping well, but make sure you feel comfortable, supported, and confident throughout the entire process.
How early can I begin sleep training my child?
You can begin laying the groundwork for healthy sleep hygiene at birth. If you are expecting and want to learn more about how to do this or if you have a newborn from 0-3 months, check out our Prenatal/Newborn Package. However, typically children are not ready for longer periods of sleep until they are older and have matured physically and developmentally. If you are interested in more formal sleep training options, I ask that your child is at least 3-4 months old.
Will this process involve crying?
No one likes to hear their child cry, and I’m not going to sugarcoat the fact that habit change and learning new skills often involves some tears at some points. Newness & change can be hard for anyone, and it is natural and healthy to expect some protests. For babies, this protest usually manifests as crying. While crying isn’t necessary for sleep training to be successful, it can be a byproduct of habit change.
I will provide you with a holistic and comprehensive approach to sleep training that serves to minimize unnecessary tears by accounting and controlling for the many variables associated with sleep. While crying may occur, I will provide you with some clear boundaries for when to step in to support, reassure, and comfort and when to stand back and allow your little one an opportunity to practice a new skill.
Using my background in child development & infant mental health, I will teach you methods to minimize the crying and support you through the anxiety it may cause. At the end of the journey, everyone will be rewarded with a great night's sleep and many families tell me that the amount of tears they experience on a daily basis after sleep training is far fewer than what they were experiencing before when sleep was a struggle.
Can I sleep train if I'm breastfeeding?
YES! Breastfeeding and healthy sleep definitely can co-exist and live in harmony! Sleep training actually enhances the breastfeeding relationship when both mom and baby are well rested. But regardless of how you choose to feed your baby, I am here to help you reach all your sleep goals.
Can I sleep train if we co-sleep?
The short answer is no; due to safety considerations and other factors, I do not work with co-sleeping families. However, if you are room-sharing and your child has his or her own sleep space, I am happy to help you reach your sleep goals.
Do you work with older children?
Yes! I provide sleep support for families with children up to 6-years-old. If you are interested in booking my services for your older child, set up a complimentary sleep evaluation and let's get started!
Are your services covered by insurance?
While I can not bill insurance directly, should you choose to use your HSA or FSA funds for my sleep services I can provide you with a detailed invoice and other supporting documentation to submit to your insurance company if needed. Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee that my services will be eligible for reimbursement.
